Here are 5 simple tips that will show exactly how to raise your metabolism.

Cut your calories by a maximum of 500 a day. Never go below 1000 calories a day, as it would be very unhealthy and harmful to your body. Your body needs certain amounts of nutrients and energy everyday to survive. If you starve yourself by too much your body will see it as a threat to it's survival. Your body uses fat as a way of storing energy in case you don't have enough food for a while. So if you don't supply your body with the food it needs it will slow down your metabolism and try to keep as much fat as possible.

Eat more frequently. Eat 6 small meals a day, this will stop your body from thinking that it doesn't have enough food, and therefore will keep your metabolism constantly high. Eat the meals every 3 hours, as it take about 3 hours for food to digest. Eating more frequently will also, stop you from getting cravings between meals and will increase your energy.

Eat more protein. Eat high quality protein, such as chicken, eggs or fish, with every meal. Protein will provide your body with the building blocks it need to repair and build cells. You need to provide your body with protein frequently, as it can only be used for a maximum of 3 hours within your body. Without protein sources from food your body will have to break down muscle, causing you to have less muscle mass. Decreased muscle mass will decrease your metabolism, and the number of calories you are capable of burning throughout the day.

Lift weights. Weight lifting will build and strengthen you muscles. Muscle is the engine that drives your metabolism, the more you have the higher your resting metabolism. Lift weights 3 times a week, but only train each body part once a week. For example do legs Monday, chest Wednesday and back Friday. Perform whole body lifts such as squats and deadlifts, as these will stimulate the most muscle fibres and raise your metabolism much more. Increase the weight each week, this will increase your strength and muscle mass.

Cardio training. Aim to do high intensity cardio for 20 to 30 minutes every other day. The best time to do cardio is in the morning on the days you don't have weight training. This will keep your metabolism high in between weight training. Try to increase the intensity of each workout slightly, this will stop your body from adapting to the workout.
